Abstract

The discovery of graphene has inspired the search of other forms of Dirac semimetals in various dimensions. For the past couple of years, there has been a growing interest toward the realization of three dimensional (3D) counter part of graphene, which is called Weyl semimetal (WSM). Like graphene, its band structure has a pair of bands crossing at certain points (Weyl points) of momentum space, but unlike graphene, it is three dimensional.  In my talk, I will first review some interesting aspects of WSMs and current research progresses. I will then focus on a specific question of our interest - the density of states (DOS) of WSMs at the Weyl points in the presence of weak disorders, which has been long believed to be vanishing. However, through the selfconsistent T matrix approximation, we preliminarily find a nonzero DOS at the Weyl points with weak finite-range scalar potential disorders.
