א. מטרות הקורס:
הידרודינמיקה ואלסטיות עוסקת בהתנהגות מאקרוסקופית של נוזלים ומוצקים בהתאמה, שפועלים עליהם כוחות חיצוניים. אנו מניחים תאור רציף של התווך והטיפול התיאורטי נעשה בשפת תורת השדות המוגדרים במרחב ובזמן: המהירות והלחץ בנוזלים וכן המעוות והמאמץ במוצקים. בהידרודינמיקה נתמקד בעיקר בבעיות זרימה ואילו באלסטיות בתכונות שווי משקל של מוצקים. יודגש הקשר לתופעות מוכרות מחיי היום-יום.
ב. תוכן הקורס:
תכנית הוראה מפורטת:
· Introduction to continuum mechanics: liquids and solids
· Simple deformations of elastic solids: Hook’s law, Young’s modulus, Poisson ratio, bulk and shear moduli. Torsion of rods and bending of beams.
· Waves and vibrations in solids. Longitudinal (sound), torsional and bending waves in rods
· General theory of stress and strain in solids: displacement field, stress and strain tensors. The elastic energy of deformed bodies, elastic constants.
· Hydrodynamics of ideal liquids: Euler and Lagrange descriptions, Euler’s equation, streamlines, equation of continuity, momentum conservation, incompressible fluids. Hydrostatics. Bernouli’s theorem, potential flow, circulation. Flow around a sphere, d’Álembert’s paradox. Gravity waves.
· Hydrodynamics of real liquids: viscosity, viscous stress, Navier-Stokes equation. Laminar flow: Couette and Poiseuille geometries, Stokes flow around a sphere. Reynolds number, boundary layers, turbulence, Kolmogorov’s theory. Suspensions: diffusion and hydrodynamic interactions.
