Abstract
18 years ago Kane, Fisher, and Polchinsky have predicted that the edge of a fractional quantum Hall system with filling factor 2/3 will undergo reconstruction and renormalization. As a result two chiral edge channels emerge: one that supports charge that moves in the " expected" direction, and another which supports neutral excitations that move in the opposite direction. A long sought after experimental confirmation has been recently reported. I will explain the physics of these neutral modes, outline the experiment, and explain how they are manifest when transport through a quantum dot is considered. Generalization to other fractions will be discussed as well
