Admission Requirements for the PhD Program in Physics

PhD Admission Tracks and Requirements

PhD studies are intended for students seeking advanced research opportunities and aiming to obtain the highest academic degree. Earning a PhD opens the door to diverse career paths in research, academia, and industry. There are three main admission tracks for PhD (doctoral) studies:

Standard Track (86-601):

  • This track is designed for students who have completed a Master's degree with a thesis and already possess research experience and academic writing skills.

  • It is the standard route for continuing directly into doctoral studies after a Master’s degree.

  • Duration: 4 years from the beginning of the PhD program

Combined Master's–PhD Track (86-711):

  • This track is intended for students who wish to begin their doctoral research while completing their Master’s degree, allowing for time-saving and research continuity.

  • It integrates a two-year Master's program with an additional four years of PhD studies.

  • It enables a smooth transition from Master’s to doctoral research.

Direct PhD Track (86-701):

  • This track is aimed at outstanding Bachelor's graduates who demonstrate the ability to conduct comprehensive research without first earning a Master’s degree.

  • Duration: 4 years from the start of the PhD program.
